Do bike lanes really result in more cycling? After surveying 1,600 households, Dr. Raktim Mitra at Ryerson University says “yes.” TCAT was a collaborator on this research study that found that neighbourhoods with more cycling infrastructure have more than double the number of cyclists on streets than neighbourhoods that don’t.
“The study results indicate there are 2.26 times higher odds of increased bicycling on streets with on-street cycling facility compared to locations without one,” according to the press release, “and that regular cyclists were 2.28 times more likely to bicycle almost daily for commuting after the addition of a local cycling facility.” Read more…
