Peterborough’s Jackson Park-Brookdale Neighbourhood is one of three Peterborough neighbourhoods participating in GreenUP’s NeighbourPLAN participatory planning program, a project of Active Neighbourhoods Canada. Through numerous activities, including asset mapping, infrastructure audits, exploratory walks, and travel route mapping, residents of this neighbourhood have created a Community Portrait. The portrait shows who is using existing public space, how it is being used, and how residents perceive these spaces. In March, many residents participated in a visioning workshop up at Highland Heights Public School.
The next step is a Vision+Design Workshop to review the Community Portrait and collaboratively develop more detailed designs, discuss short and long-term goals, and identify potential partners to help work towards some of these goals. TCAT staff and volunteers will be at the workshop, where we’ll engage in a number of activities to envision design solutions for the neighbourhood. The ideas captured during this workshop will inform the final Neighbourhood Vision, which will be a resource that belongs to the residents of the area, as well as key partner organizations.
