Platform and Election Surveys
The Toronto Centre for Active Transportation (TCAT) was formed in the lead up to the 2006 municipal election. TCAT created an Active Transportation Platform that emerged out of consultation with environmental, health and transportation groups from across Toronto. The platform identified actions for the next City Council to take to support active transportation and resulted in a survey of all 2006 municipal candidates.
With another municipal election on the way in 2010, TCAT reviewed the progress between 2006 and 2009 once again provided a detailed analysis of concrete steps for the city to take in all areas of its operations to improve walking and cycling in the next term of council. The result was TCAT's 2010 platform titled “Action 2014: Taking the Next Step” released on April 16, 2010.
In August 2010, TCAT surveyed all 2010 municipal candidates in order to provide voters with information about the candidates' views on active transportation issues and about the concrete steps that can be taken to improve cycling and walking in Toronto.
